Because the rights and needs of society has to take precedent over the individual.

There is not one successful libertarian society on earth. They do not work.

But people can always send their kids to private schools if they want.

But not at the expense of public education. Society deems that necessary.

Parents have a real choice. It is called the local school board.
At the collective level, why not extend choice to the individual level? Why should every parent be subjected to the wishes of the majority? Don't you believe in freedom of choice?
