They indicated that the reserves they had taken for trouble in Britain wouldn't be adequate, but they failed to say what would be adequate. Thus, I don't have a clue if the company will turn a profit this quarter, or take another huge writeoff resulting in a loss.

Given their previous track record, (selling portfolios and taking charges during the last quarter and not telling anyone until a few weeks ago), anything is possible. Perhaps they have already sold the company for a penny a share, and won't tell us for another 2 1/2 months.

Why don't you sell now for a tax loss, and buy back in 31 days? It's unlikely that the stock will have any significant upward movements before then.
