Robert Grutza, re:<speed of CPQ notebooks to use AMD K6's>

Compaq Goes With Cyrix and AMD

Come next year, Compaq will begin featuring non-Intel systems for its laptop and desktop systems. The entry-level units will use Cyrix' 200MHz MediaGX with MMX, and will sell for about $1,999. Compaq is also introducing at least two AMD-based Presario notebooks at around the same time, at $2,499 and $2,999.

Robert, you're probably right, speeds of 233MHz and 266MHz would still make these CPQ notebooks king of the hill.

I just got latest PC Connection catalog today. The Compaq Presario 1080 is shown as their "top of the line" at $2,399, but, no doubt, it will be more like $2000 in January. Its only a 166MHz processor. Apparently Compaq has not announced a Tillamook CPU notebook. Is that true? Or is PC Connection just not selling it?
