RE: GMR Heads?

Michael, isn't the new start up company headed by the original founder of Syquest using similar technology? If so, is IOM headed in that direction as well?

I think that company is called castlerock and the drive they were promoting is Orbit...something.

>>Does the Jaz 1G or Jaz 2G have GMR heads? I thought they were just MR heads. This could be for new, unannounced products!<<

Michael -

Jaz and Jaz2 don't use MR heads, much less GMR. If they had MR heads, the capacity would certainly be more than 2 GB for a two-platter disk.

As KE has said in the past, Iomega believes they can get 5GB in the Jaz form factor. However, moving to MR heads would force them to give up backward compatibility, or to use two different sets of heads in the drive.

Also, KE stated more than a year ago that the eventual price target for Jaz was $199 for the external drive.
