The problem with that set of statements is the ever so slight intrusion of the word entitlement in each statement. It catches people off guard because most people understand entitlements and freedoms to be somewhat synonymous. They are not.

Rights are freedoms from oppression by the government. Entitlements require legislation to facilitate government handouts through finances taken from citizens (via taxes) who may or may not support such a measure.

In this case the use of the term entitled was used in an unrestrictive manner. Entitlements by their nature are untenable unless they are defined by the specific restrictions which make them a practical tool to serve both the individual and society.

Welfare is an entitlement which is inevitable in a capitalist society. It is an entitlement system which ensures no one will be denied basic sustenance while also having no impact on basic freedoms. History has shown us, attractive as entitlements are, unbridled expansion puts individuals on the path of subjugation and peonage, while ultimately bankrupting governments.

>> So your saying its better to let people, many of whom are your neighbors, to starve to death. Is that the message you're trying to convey?

Do you have a link to a news article about someone starving to death in the US because of poverty?

I'm intentionally excluding the bogus WHO claim that 100 people died in the US in 2004 due to starvation as it is obviously is not factual.

I'm looking for actual news accounts. Also, is there any country in the world where starvation due to poverty is less likely than the US?
