Some competitor news:

yahoo.com
(note consumer electronics IC market expected to grow at 17% - LSI appears to be gaining market share in this segment - though results may be skewed because of PlayStation sales boom.)

And PlayStation selling at 1 million / month in N.America:
yahoo.com
(thus 2 million / world - appears to be roughly 1:1 ratio N.America:World - would also imply that production at LSI would have to be ramped up - since it looks like at the current run rate there is just enough supply to meet demand. Thus I say we see an announcement to raise output at least 25% to 2.5 million chips/month or roughly 300 million in revenue for LSI / year)

OWW, Is today's market pointing to "the last hurrah" opportunity to buy the techs cheap? The Nov Hi, Dec Lo scenario is panning out for quite a number of "tech victims".. I'm now back to under 50% cash, and will be around 10% cash before the 18th. Could be wrong (contrarian skills still intact), but have to take a stand and make a bet at some point, and all the pointers aim at that target (IMHO)..
Your growth figures so the semis look good to me!! With less capital available world-wide, won't the margins on that increased growth just get better and better??.. Wishful thinking?--I don't think so.. The scenario is building up for some nice semi profits over the next 2-3 years... TSo
Ole!

OWW, did you check out that technology for .08 micron feature size? Would you have any guess when this laboratory technology could be applied to real world chips?... I'm really obsessed with the fact that DPMI decided to put their new plant in facilities leased from LSI at Gresham -- a decision made AFTER all the bad news is out for the semis (and especially LSI). DPMI is the largest photomask company in the world -- and they did the .25 micron move with XLNX this fall.
SO, when DPMI has demonstrated a capability, in conjunction with Lucent, to go to "sub-.10 micron" --- and they are putting a plant on LSI's premises capable of going down to .10 micron... Am I being overly optimistic to think that LSI MIGHT be planning on taking advantage of DPMI's capabilities --- like, as soon as feasible??...
And doesn't that make an investment in LSI for the next couple of years almost reasonable?. <g> just thinking.... TSO The link;http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/971124/lucent_tech_dupont_1.html
