Kurt -- I'm curious about how CKFR plans to get a part of the smart-card business, as you predict in your post.

I had figured Master and Visa would have that all locked up. The recent story about the Manhattan trial mentioned that both have plans to download credits to future smart cards via home PC's. Wouldn't they be able to own that business end-to-end, from the consumer to the merchant? I guess I'm just too ignorant to see the opening for CKFR.

Not that I would complain. Getting any piece of that trade, in addition to dominating the e-bill and billpay arena, would just be gravy.

Kurt,

<< There are alot of things that have to happen before anyone can do that, such as that the drive in your PC that can read a smart card, but CKFR would be a part of that when it happens.>>

Just thought I would inform you...This is already a reality!
The product is called "Smarty". Smart card is read using your floppy disk drive. Here's the announcement. Too bad this company, Fischer, is privately held...
