Why does it take an English paper to get these figures?

A California spokesman said on NPR this a.m. that 30,000 signed up there this week. He said the goal was 6,000 per week and this far surpassed the goals. These numbers are not close to adding up. Correct me if I have the numbers wrong. If that person has the numbers wrong, where do you suppose we'll see a correction? Disinformation spread everywhere, then corrected when nobody is listening. People are creating and defending a narrative at all costs.
