I bought my house mainly because it had a big old fir right in front, shielding it from the road. The fir died, due to some fungal disease around here that is wiping them out. All I've got now is it's stump. I think I'll plant something that's a little hardier around here nowadays.

I've started picking up acorns and bay seeds en.wikipedia.org , and scattering them around fence lines as I drive down the hill. They drop for another few weeks.

Seeing lots of Madrone berries, too. Seems about a month early, but it's been the driest calendar year "ever".
