My Take:

After being involved with stocks that I have owned that have been rumored with takeovers and with stocks that have been takenover I think there is something going on here. I'm starting to believe there will be a takeover (LU ? ) but I don't think they will be getting the $40 they are asking for. I find it very hard to believe CNBC would risk making a statement like that if it was just a passing rumor. Maria said it came from a good source and believe me they double and triple check this stuff out before they air it.

But the key here is Why is it so quite all of a sudden, I thought for sure that asnd would be in the mid-20's right because it was false.
Also all these 10k blocks that Gary has pointed out are a sure way to buy a hell of alot of shares without running the price up to quick.

Sector:

It also undermines the lawsuit from the Cascade stockholders.
Ascend has strong incentives to improve share price.

SI, it shouldn't be hard justifying a $48-50 price tag when it traded at $80 1/4 within the last 12 months. However, I'm not so sure I'd use the same #'s as Leeza is using. Just because Nations Bank (as an example) is willing to pay 5 1/2 times book for Boatmen's Bancshares does not mean the same valuation will be used in the next acquisition. And, of course, we all know that banks USED to go for
1.5 to 2 times book.... I think the PE analysis is virtually worthless in looking at a possible buyout of ASND, given the recent weakness in earnings due to the recent acquisition of Cascade, the wait for a 56k resolution and weakness in Asia. IF (and that's a big IF) ASND is acquired it will be predicated on future earnings potential and potential verticle integration of products with the acquirer, not on trailing earnings (in my opinion).
