To All: I spoke with Laura Rebouche at UTEK investor relations office. She said the Art Z. quote in the Mercury News was taken out of context and that Art Z. was furious when he got back from Semicon Japan and read the article on Friday. The context of the quote was that the atmosphere of the convention was decidely gloomy, with "softening" primarily due to process problems with Nikon and Canon's DUV steppers and also with the uncertainties created by the Korean fiancial crisis. The "getting concerned" part of the quote was conditional that the gloom would prove to be based on fact and not fiction. Other tidbits:

The building is on schedule for completion in January 1999. It will house P-Gild, Ultrabeam and various coporate offices. The first Ultrabeam shipment is still on schedule for later this month. Keep an eye out for a press release. Five Ultrabeams shipments are targeted for 1998. One in 1Q and two each in 3Q and 4Q. Three or four P-Gilds are targeted for shipment in 1998. One in 1Q or 2Q and two or three more in the second half. Front end disk equipment remains weak, but back end is solid. The company is also still seeing a lot of demand for micromachining equipment and the high end semiconductor equipment. The restructuring of the Japanese sales operation/Innotech arrangement and related charge-offs (disclosed in last quarter's 10-Q) are still under evaluation. I did not get the impression that any write-off would be large.

I would be interested in reading post from other threaders that may confirm my findings.

Happy holiday!
