You don't know much about web app development I take it. Or open source.

There is Linux, for example. MySQL is a very common back end for web apps. So are things like Redis, mongoDB and a whole host of applications. For Ruby, there is rubyforge.org for a lot of functionality. Same for code snippets.

Open source drives the Internet.

Now personally, I think this was internal code from another project. But it shows a great deal of ignorance to claim that code from other sources is never used.

Not ALL of it. Have YOU ever coded? I have, and freely borrowed functional publicly available modules to incorporate. Made me MUCH more productive under hard deadlines, which my bosses really didn't care how I hit, only that I did.

It's not like writing a book.
