The ideology of the left is - that there will be safety nets and lots of them and that we don't have to pay for them since we can just charge that bill up to future generations. That's based on their ideology.

I don't know a soul on the left who makes this argument. The "left" is, of course, a bag with lots and lots of different items in it. But in so far as they can be bundled together into one argument, it's fair to say the left favors specific items in a safety net--unemployment benefits, welfare, and protections in old age (medicare and ss). But no one on the left, at least no one I read, favors not paying for them. That's one of the reasons we pay taxes, to provide these for ourselves and our neighbors.

In so far as I read the left on the "paying" portion it is to note that can pay for them now with lowered military expenses and a much more effectively progressive tax code. That pays for them.

Well, I consider myself on the left and believe we ought to be paying for it all.
That said, where I differ from many on the right is how to increase revenue and where to cut the spending.
Pretty basic.
It is, indeed a political --and honesty problem.
