Not only that, but our current debt and deficits were directly caused by Republican tax cuts beginning with Reagan not being matched by spending cuts. That is the CAUSE of our debt.

So, the solution is staring us right in the face, raise taxes, especially on the wealthy. Which Republicans refuse to even consider.

With 17 trillion dollars of debt and democrats arguing to stop cutting via the sequester you don't think they are saying - "don't pay for them"? We want to pay for those safety nets as long as it comes out of the other guys pocket - and you know it. Does anyone on the left want to cut the "earned income credit" to help balance the budget?
