Edward, not necessarily off-base. It's just that Apple can't make a sub-$1000 computer in a cost-effective way. Yet.

That's an interesting NYT article. Earlier in the year the hot trend was supposed to be towards super notebooks as well, ones that perform as well as desktop machines. Well, nobody has better laptops than Apple, yet sales have been sluggish besides a surge in March when the 3400 was released. Plus, we get reviewers never failing to comment on the $5700 G3 PB price tag. (Maybe because journalists don't make enough.<g>)
