Keynesianism doesn't advocate it go on forever and has to be "sustained" forever. Just that it be done until private hiring takes off as the economy improves and takes up the slack. Then, when the economy is running well, employment is good, Keynesianism proposes that debt be paid down.

What do you see as wrong with that prescription? That it's "unsustainable" mischaracterizes the proposed solution.
