The best way to make sure that doesn't happen is to strengthen the center, not push things towards either the right or left extremes. We drastically need to reform taxation so that income for the middle class which comes from wage income is not taxed at effectively much higher rates than income which comes from investments for the well off. Romney paid less in effective tax than workers pay in net SSI/MC tax (15.3% counting both halves). Ever year when I do my taxes I say why the heck is the stuff coming off Sch D treated so differently than Sch C or F? However we also have to be concerned about the increasing Bread and Circus approach that many on the left advocate. That has been tried before and doesn't work well in democracies.
