It is baffling to me.

If the owner, whoever he may be, wanted to make money on the site, he ought to have consulted the users first and get a buy-in of whatever resulted from the dialogue. He would still have had the final say, but would have gotten valuable input in the process. And while it would have been a pain in the butt for a month while it was ongoing, it still would have been worth it to him, since he is getting grief anyway.

Personally, I don't care for the ads, but having both used and not used ad blocker over the past couple of days, they each have their objectionable features, but I can also live with each of them. The site has timed out on me a couple of times when I don't use ad blocker, although when it doesn't time out the difference in how the page loads is only barely noticeable. I have a pretty fast HD along with plenty of memory, so perhaps that makes a difference. I wonder what it looks like to a user with an SSD.

Thoughts welcome.

Based on the little real information we have, I agree with your post.

As for page load speed when ads are displayed, When I view SI without blocking ads, the loads slow to the point of being unusable. When I block ads, the site speed is close to what it used to be. As I said in my post to Dimitry on the other board, management should have beefed up the infrastructure to accomodate the added load of serving up the ads before deploying them.

They are asking users to view ads while suffering a great degradation in site speed. And condemning them for trying to get the speed back by blocking ads. All because they didn't invest in the site to adequately handle the added load.

I won't be very chatty today, I got the flu. But I'll read the thread. I hope the board can help new management hear the voices of SI's primary asset: the Users.

I'd like to know what percentage of posts are to 'Investing/stock' threads, and what percentage of posts are to other threads.
While I began here for stock threads I precipitated to other ones.
Now I'm mostly 'other'.

Dale, help me out. Brad sold it to Craig? i thought brad was long gone and Bob Z owned it. I never really paid a whole lot of attention to the ownership issues here after the GNet deal but it doesn't seem like what you interpret as Craig's motives are correct unless he has more money than brains. Why reinstall a quote feed and pay those fees if you don't have some idea of doing something different to create more revenue?

If one wanted to just sell ads and bleed what you could off the top there would be no reason to increase expenses, especially with a service that was tried and failed in the past.

Forgive me if these questions are answered in the rest of the thread, i just saw it and started reading from the beginning.

Cloudy day today ;-)
