Boy, you really have it all figured out.

Plato and Socrates were simply examples of the great Greek mind. It was the level of their thinking that mattered. That level was not seen again until the age of enlightenment in the 16th century.

Using your logic, you would accuse George Washington and Thomas Jefferson as being racist and stupid because they had slaves. Maybe you better enlighten your tea party friends that the constitution was written by slave holders and so is a worthless document.

<,
Hi koan; Re Plato and Socrates. I quoted Plato to show you that they were against Democracy and in favor Aristocracy 2500 years ago. At the same time, there were (obviously) people who were in favor of Democracy. And still you think that Plato and Socrates were *liberals*?

No, even accounting for the situation of the times they were in, Plato and Socrates were right wing, rather than left wing.

P.S. It suddenly makes sense to me. Let's recall how the US and European left was in favor of Stalin despite the Communist destruction of Democracy. So it's not just koan and Socrates that are against democracy. It's always been an attribute of the leftists since long before the "Committee of Public Safety" used the guillotine on 16,000 people for counter revolutionary activities. The only way you can get the people to accept leftist principles is by using extreme force.
