The existing market mostly works well for people who are healthy and have moderate to high incomes; the goal of the ACA is to make it work for everyone.

Like duh, insurance always "works well" for people who don't need it--that is, who are mostly "healthy", who don't have chronic or expensive life-threatening diseases. Well, actually, that isn't always so--insurance doesn't always cover or even encourage preventive care, which is something that a lot of people could use. And that doesn't show up for years, or even decades.
