Think of the fear and hatred that liberal/progressives have toward a god that most of them dismiss as an imaginary friend and who most everyone will agree, takes a pretty much hands off approach to managing individuals. And now think of the fact that they are replacing the "imaginary friend" who takes a hands off approach to managing individuals with an organized body that, without question, can reach out and touch the lives of individuals in a very meaningful way. One of the main concepts that this country was founded on was that individuals had natural rights that were imparted on them by their God. Whether that God is judeo-christian, muslim, buddhist, mother earth....it was something that only God could give. And they were simple rights that are pretty much natural behavior of humans, and in fact, most animals. And importantly, they didn't require the specific performance from another individual for you to attain that right. The government's job is to protect those rights. The government didn't give them to you, they are yours naturally. And since they are yours naturally, the government cannot take away those rights. But a government that dispenses "rights", like the right to health care or the right to a living wage, can also take those rights away. Further, in order to provide those "rights", it requires using force to obligate others to provide those "rights". Governments that take on the role of God, and Politicians who are worshipped like saviors, have caused the greatest atrocities that the human animal has ever seen. It's a terrifying world where God can actually show up at your front door and smite thee.
