Of course everyone needs insurance. But even if we had been able to adopt single payer (which would have been a good thing), we would still need to pay for it in a way that rewards people for making healthy choices, and penalizes people for making bad choices.

Health care costs need to reflect choices people make in order to fairly allocate costs, encourage good behavior, and discourage bad behavior. That's not inherently evil, its simply good economics and good public policy if done properly and humanely.
