I considered the 8 core AMD processors, but settled on the 6 core because of price and also possible heat issues with the 8 core CPUs and likewise I also opted for the 95 watt 6-core FX-6300 instead of the 125 watt 6-core FX-6350 for the same reasons. Buying an after market cooler would have been an additional expense. I plan to load Win 7 Pro-32bit and also plan on making the system a dual boot with XP-Pro-32bit. My other two main computers are an HP with Vista Home Premium-32bit using an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor and a Win 7 Ultimate-64bit system I built using an AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition.

Below are some screen shots of Core-Temp, CPU-Z, and CrystalDiskInfo running on my two computers. The Core-Temp display is different for the 64 bit machine which is the top image.

Also I've included the links for these free utilities. CrystalDiskInfo in particular is useful for S.M.A.R.T. info on hard-drive health.

I use Intel processors for the lower power draw and ability to run Mac OS X in a virtual machine.
