I was informed that AMD personnel are not allowed to post on public forums and the same should be true of Intel personnel . I guess they do not want stock manipulation or insider trading problems , Brian

Petz , re. second reason for slot 1
It was to remove the L2 cache from the chip since it was too costly for mainstream PCs and they were having yield problems .While placing commodity Sram on the card would give a compromise solution that would be cheaper but still faster than on the board . Another supposed reason was for upgradeability , pay me now or pay me later (grin)
