The only way the Republicans could lose to if they put up a piece of crap candidate....

I remember Rush Limbaugh saying something similar in 2010-11. Something like "The republicans could put up anybody or a nobody and walk away with this election based on the economy".

We all know who the RINO's found, and he couldn't even stand up to Candy Crowley.

Now with the obamacare debacle a lot of moderates have woken up from liberal propaganda about nanny state and could vote republican. So here is the choice: either republicans run a moderate like Christie and attract millions of independents or they run someone who is a social conservative and the media digs out all his statements he ever made about abortions, gays, etc and talks about that 24/7.
Looks like a lot of people think that reminding people about obamacare would automatically make them vote republican. I don't think it is that simple. The media will do its best to change the subject and make other social issues seem important. Not to mention that the democratic candidate would probably swear he/she is not as a leftie as Obama and would promise a tough stance on immigration and praise free markets.
My point is that independents constitute much larger percentage of the electorate than social conservatives. It is much more lucrative to go after them than to cater to social conservatives.
