I always knew we bred with Neanderthal. Scientists kept taking the empirical approach looking for the DNA. Group think. But there was a deductive approach which gave the answer with pretty good certainty. One could go around the problem inductive logic couldn't solve.

The reason both Russell and Whitehead turned away from science in their 50's to logic and philosophy.

We knew homo sapian had not been separated from Neanderthal over a million years. We also knew dogs can remain fertile for over a million years and our life spoanes are five times those of dogs; ergo it was more than likely that Neanderthal and homo spaien could have viable off spring if they mated.

And we sure as hell knew males will bed anything they can most of the time. Both species had plenty of opportunities for mating.

So it was elementary my dear Dr Watson.
