"a republican never did a good thing" That's not true. Lincoln did GREAT things for America. So did TR. Even Eisenhower did good things. Any (R) starting with Reagan? Not so much. The last (R) president? The bad FAR outweighs the good, so much even his fellow (R) wish he'd never lived and try to pretend he didn't. Reagan's image was resolutely polished by (R)'s, and inflated FAR beyond his true accomplishments. His legend is carefully crafted fiction. The debt he saddled us with is all that endures. We only get the two choices here. I'll always go with the least evil and regressive, and that hasn't meant an (R) in my lifetime.

You know what is so frustrating for me Steve, is the fact it IS always the Republican's causing the problems and hurting the country. Reagan was brought in by a kitchen cabinet of plutocrats to crush the unions and help them obtain what they wanted like tax breaks and the ability to rape the land.. He started by crushing the air traffic controllers and he mercilessly crushed them. And he quintupled the deficit giving tax breaks to his plutocrat masters and blowing up defense spending. Remember he also said: "government is the problem not the solution"; and then gave us tinkle down economics. Russia fell apart on its own; and Volcker was the guy who brought inflation down sending interest rates up to 18%. I was in California when he wad governor and closed down the mental institutions putting the mentally ill out on the streets (first street people) and waging a war against the hippies (SF state) and trying to break down UC Berkeley. He was such a horrible governor few of my friends in Alaska thought he had a chance of winning the presidency, but my ex and I knew better. Reagan was a terrible person and president. He also supported apartheid and traded drugs for guns in central America. Remember Iran/contra and Ollie North. Cap Weinberger? <<This is what is so frustrating for me Koan - that all evil is all the time republicans and that a republican never did a good thing.
