12/20/13 Contest Update

Portfolio submissions are now welcome at the 2014 Contest thread here:
Subject 59338
Sunday, January, 5, 2014, midnight, PST, is the portfolio submission deadline. But the earlier the better (three portfolios have already been posted!).
Newbies, in particular, please read the Guidelines in the 2014 Contest Original Post before submitting a portfolio.
Please spread the word about the Contest on whatever biotech boards you frequent!

Wall Street threw a wild party Wednesday to celebrate Fed chief Ben Bernanke’s final press conference. And from the looks of it, investors may continue to party hard until Helicopter Ben finally takes off in his copter for the jungles of academe.
Biotech investors were among the most enthusiastic celebrants at Bernanke’s bash. At Friday’s close the Contest median was up 64.28% YTD (vs. up 58.65% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 63.11% YTD (vs. up 57.40% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index also had a good week, closing up 35.94% YTD (vs. up 32.50% YTD a week ago).
Contest leader, RKRW’s portfolio, added a couple of percent to its superlative performance and is now up 166.61 % YTD. But, thanks in part to XOMA, second place ROBO’s portfolio had a stellar week and remains in contention with a 149.55% YTD gain. GHMM’s portfolio, up 128.80% YTD, held on to third place.
At Friday's close, 37 of the 39 Contest portfolios were in the black with 20 of the 39 still beating the NBI.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week.
Portfolio adjustments: None
Best wishes to all for a merry Christmas week!
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Peace & good health,
Bulba
