12/27/13 Contest Update

Time is running out to get your portfolio in for the 2014 Contest!
Here’s the link to where you can post your portfolio:
Subject 59338
Sunday, January, 5, 2014, midnight, PST, is the portfolio submission deadline. But the earlier the better. (14 portfolios have already been posted and my own is coming shortly.)
Newbies, in particular, please read the Guidelines in the 2014 Contest Original Post before submitting a portfolio.
Please spread the word about the Contest on whatever biotech boards you frequent!

Santa Claus came to Biotech town and did leave a few small gifts. Given the riches they’ve received throughout the year, I doubt many biotech investors are disappointed.
At Friday’s close the Contest median was up 66.91% YTD (vs. up 64.28% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 64.93% YTD (vs. up 63.11% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index closed up 37.66% YTD (vs. up 35.94% YTD a week ago).
Contest frontrunner, RKRW’s portfolio, padded its lead with a few more percent and finished the week with a phenomenal 172.71% YTD gain. Second place, ROBO’s portfolio, also added a couple of percent and is now up 151.48% YTD, enough to get the gold most years but not 2013. And the impressive 138.34% YTD gain by third place GHMM’s portfolio is certainly medal-worthy as well.

I plan to do a Contest update, posting the official winner and entire Top Ten list shortly after the market closes on 12/31. It’ll take me a bit more time to post additional 2013 Contest data analysis.

At Friday's close, 38 of the 39 Contest portfolios were in the black with 21 of the 39 now beating the NBI.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week.
Portfolio adjustments: None

With just two trading days left, RKRW’s lead seems insurmountable. I asked him to name his charity early, so folks can make their donation in time to take a 2013 tax deduction.
And as in the past, RKRW chose the United Teen Equality Center.
Here’s the link to UTEC’s website home page:
utec-lowell.org

In past years, a few contestants have wanted to contribute to a charity I chose along with that of the winner’s charity (no obligation, of course). As I did last year, I’ll choose the East Bay College Fund as my charity. Here’s the link to their website:
eastbaycollegefund.org

Best wishes to all for a terrific 2014!
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Peace & good health,
Bulba
