Because there was only a 7% increase, i don't think the y2k explanation plays out convincingly, because, as you said, it should have been a major driver spurring sales this year. Asia is going to be a convenient scapegoat for missed estimates -- ignore it! I think that Ellison and company simply didn't perform up to expectations. In other words, I think we're looking at something that's company specific. So far this year, PSFT, BAAN and SAP have been putting up very nice numbers, and it was pointed out some time ago that a major constraing factor for all of these compnies is the number of qualified consultants -- not demand for the products.

BTW, you need to adjust your surprise to 1 cent (remember, we just split).
