Murdoch Claims Sky Latin America Outsells Galaxy 2-to-1

Dec. 10, 1997

In Miami to inaugurate Sky Latin America's new $140 million International Satellite Broadcast Center, Rupert Murdoch boasted that the $1 billion venture involving News Corp, Mexico's Grupo Televisa, Brazil's Organizacoes Globo and Tele-Communications International Inc., is outselling rival Galaxy Latin America by two-to-one. Galaxy is headed by DirecTV International.

Murdoch also suggested the service, which currently has about 150,000 subscribers in Mexico and Brazil, should break even "by the end of '99."
