Yes, but scientist's don't do science for the grants. They do it for the love of science.

Some people want to know about things.

As Socrates said: "The unexamined life is not worth living".

That is the passion scientists have about science.

So this grant ruse the right wing thought up is absurd.

Tenchusatsu,

Research is immensely profitable, and universities as well as corporations compete for grants. This keeps both funded and potentially cause benefits from this research. Science is about profits and knowledge.
