I think the arrow of morality moves through time. I don't know why and it is confusing for all the strange exceptions e.g. Hitler versus the Spanish Inquisition. Sort of the nature, nurture conundrum.

But we are more aware of sexism, racism and gay rights than at any time in history and even have laws to protect those people.

That is all brand new stuff, but we seem to be much more sensitive to bigotry. As recently as the 1960's the entire south got away with blatant segregation.

Steven Pinker in his book the Nature of our better angels says this is the most peaceful time in history.

But I am just trying to figure it out. I don't know anything. Just trying to mentally image the history of mankind and its juxtapositioning to morality and wisdom and education.
