In a nutshell ( I'm supposed to be working ). We use NT on desktops and on non-critical applications. All our critical applications are either on UNIX servers or mainframes. I don't see NT taking over from large UNIX servers or mainframes any time soon. At least, not during this century.

Dulane,

I'm no technical expert in this area (at least not compared to others on this board) but I noticed from your profile that you also visit the Compaq board. I'm long on Compaq but I don't necessarily share the opinions on this board. There are many people who feel that UNIX will be replaced soon and Wintel will rule the world. This is IMHO a very narrow minded view and you should not listen to it without making further research.
I would recommend reading some of the older messages on this board especially by Addi and twister. This will give you a good idea about the two different opinions on Sun.
BTW, I would have never bought Sun just for Java or Bill Gates. My reasons are the strong growth in the server and storage business.
Nevertheless I feel you made a good decision to buy Sun :-)
