That's a ridiculous right-wing fantasy. We've subsidized things since the founding or our republic. Our biggest welfare whores today are corporations. We've subsidized homeowners for decades by letting them deduct their mortgage interest. We subsidized the internet by letting things be sold on it without being taxed. We subsidize things and groups all the time.

Usually, the special interest winning the subsidy has an army of high paid lobbyists and huge bucks showering on legislators.
