Arnie: Reminds me of the days with OJDidit - sort of missed the guy. Too bad he had to leave. I really enjoy seeing the bears come out on this thing. It validates the story. You need naysayers and second guessers to climb that "wall of worry". We have a whole slew of potential longs that missed out on the last run up from the teens. Now, they are licking their chops, satisfied of their decision to wait this one out as we continue bouncing around in this consolidation zone.

Earlier today I finished a fine post in reference to your great response to PT - only to have my connection go out.

Let me try to reconstruct the essence of what I was trying to say. First, finding business customers for Nextel's iDEN/Powerfone service
is like shooting fish in a barrel. Here in Chicago, I met over lunch with the head of IS at one leading exchange. Earlier this year I made reference to the fact that this exchange selected Nextel for their security communication devices and that their IS area was looking into it.

My Nextel rep - God love her - followed up like a bull-dog on this guy and when the subject of Nextel came up over lunch in reference to this Direct Connect Trading Network I am big on - this guy about jumped out of his chair with enthusiasm just talking about the benefits. He pulled his cheap Sprint cell phone plus the pager - voice mail, etc. - and went right to the heart of the benefit: "With Nextel I can get all 20 managers on conference at the SAME TIME for my mission critical needs." Case closed..... That's 20-25 phones sold and a huge word of mouth marketing resource going forward.

Every major exchange in the country is going Nextel as we speak. From traders - buy and sell side - to brokers, IS and operations people alike. PT, they are throwing out all the "come on plans...free minutes" and other promotional packages because only one service offers the power to instantly connect to groups of people NOW - not later, when they get back to you, return your page, voicemail, e-mail, etc. The fact is, most everyone likes to control and manage on their terms on their time - and Nextel allows them to do this.

Having a Nextel phone is fast becoming a fundamental business requirement to remain competitive. If you manage people in remote service or sales jobs, when it comes to Nextel, you would have to seriously ask yourself "why not??" The benefit hits everyone in the head like a two-by-four.

PT, it is clear to me and others on this thread that you have really not come to understand Nextel's product and services. If you had a clue you'd be trying to find holes in other areas - their ability to roll it out, market, maintain customer service, quality gaps, etc. All of us would appreciate any real-world experience/example you could offer from the field in your area that fills in the picture for us to understand more. You aren't providing anything of that. So my suggestion would be simply to sell Nextel stock short, or find another forum to spend your time.

Good luck!

Arnie Re: long term investor strategy when the market stalls.

It's kind of slow tonight on SI, so I thought I'd introduce, for your opinion, one of the strategies that long term Nextel investors must be comtemplating. This has nothing to do with the product or loyalty to the company, just investment money.

Lets say, The Nextel investor made the primary investment when the stock was, lets say 15 per sh. Sat back and watched his or her investment climb to 32 and then retreat downward. Didn't sell on the way down because the stock was volitile and could rebound to a new high. Now the stock has continued to retreat downward and seems to have stagnated at the 24 mark.

At this point, the investment is not working for the investor. Wouldn't it be a good move to pull out, invest in a money market fund temporarily, until movement up happens, then re-invest. If the stock moves up slowly, the reaction time will not cause a great loss of position. But on the other side, if the stock gaps up when the market is closed, there could be a 2 point loss of position. Small gamble when you think of it. Is it possible that big traders are doing just what I described, and the sales are not dumping by X McCaw?

Al

The nextel phones still will work well, the company will not suffer in any way etc. Should this investor be called a traitor, a non believer? I don't think so, do you? This has nothing to do with PT Barnum.

NXTL users are willing to pay $70 arpu per month because they save money over having two instruments on their belt.

Perhaps I am hanging with the wrong crowd, but virtually all of my acquintances who are Nextel subscribers use it because it is cheaper and better than AMPS. They also like the voicemail. Their ARPU is well in excess of $100. Most never heard of Direct Connect. Get it? ADVANTAGE SPRINT PCS.
