Yes, and Gates hated the fact both Obama and Biden questioned the military. But that is the whole point of appointing a Democrat and not a Republican. The Dems have always seen the mindlessness of the military and the Republican's always idolize them.

It was JFK and Bobby that saved us from a nuclear war by opposing the military and especially that butcher Curtis LeMay.

The military did everything wrong in Viet Nam not too mention pathological lying.

Both of those Bush wars were nuts and futile (and opposed by most dems) , but the one in Afghanistan was really futile from the get go and very few dems thought we needed a surge there. That was really nuts. Where was the sage military advice during this time? It was the peacock Petraeus's idea. Which Obams bought right into.

His other surge in Iraq was an illusion too. It was really the Sunnis' cooperating to avoid Shia death squads.

I know I posted many times the Iraq war would devolve into a civil war once we left and there was no chance the Afghanistan surge would work.

Obama needs to appoint liberal dems!

<<I haven't read much on the Gates flap, but from the limited chatter I've read, he appears to be bashing Obama for Obama's failure to "believe" in Obama's Afghanistan strategy. Which raises two questions 1) Did Gates believe in the strategy? and 2) if he didn't did does he have any strategy for Afghanistan that he himself does believe in?

yeah, i don't get it either, other than another Faux outrage for Faux news...

I was definitely disappointed when Obama announced, in early 2009 i believe it was, that he was going with a "surge" of ground forces in Afghanistan... seemed like a losing strategy to me... more boots on the ground only encourages the extremists and then when the inevitable collateral damage occurs to innocents it just creates more enemies... and if i remember correctly Biden was against it from the get-go... so why the criticism of Biden?

the one thing is that Obama did say beforehand he was going to go with whatever the military brass in charge thought was the best plan of action... so he let them try their surge... but now it's way past time to surge our asses out of there
