Can DSL break the 'Year of' curse?

Depending on your point of view, our front page this week is either blessed or cursed with stories about promising new technologies (see
our DSL story). Blessed if you really think they will mean anything and cursed if you count on them and they don't live up to expectations.

The most solid potential for innovation is suggested by the story that asks if 1998 will be the year of ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line), a very promising technology.

Re: Coiffi not tendering ---- I tried to read between the lines. I read every word. Notice Dr. John is not part of the deal -- they are working on a consulting agreement. Working on one, it says. They have had a number of months to work out a deal -- I don't think Dr. John wants a deal, he wants his Amati. He created it so I doubt he would be happy to see it stolen (personal opinion). Dr. John has more shares that anyone, almost 10% -- I don't think he will hand them over easily. I think the retention agreement is poor and doesn't do much for the Amati officers. There are no guaranteed jobs for any of them and no guaranteed income for even a short period of time. Who was it that said the report of my defeat was greatly exaggerated? Unbelieveable to me that so many write like this matter (Amati) is dead.
