Perhaps the superstitious authors got a little too carried away, perhaps they were really meaning life in abundance, something a little more down to Earth, that would be what Buddha is speaking of. There's some 200 of these, enough to fill a dozen Korans & 10 Bibles, it just amazing how little there really is in both holy books compared to this one man's 60yrs of teachings. That was the great feat, to not go out in a blaze of glory, but stick around & teach, for God just to come down & go "poof", then gone again back to heaven so soon after only a few seasons? Teaching is not easy, men have to be constantly reminded, then it spread like fire, faster than anything men had ever seen up till that time. Interesting thoughts similar to the Greeks & Chinese prophets. “Even as a solid rock is unshaken by the wind, so are the wise unshaken by praise or blame.” ? Gautama Buddha “Long is the night to him who is awake; long is a mile to him who is tired; long is life to the foolish who do not know the true law.” ? Gautama Buddha “In the sky, there is no distinction of east and west; people create distinctions out of their own minds and then believe them to be true.” ? Gautama Buddha “With our thoughts we make the world.” ? Gautama Buddha “The past is already gone, the future is not yet here. There's only one moment for you to live, and that is the present moment” ? Gautama Buddha “Set your heart on doing good. Do it over and over again, and you will be filled with joy.” ? Gautama Buddha “Rage is a powerful energy that with diligent practice can be transformed into fierce compassion. However much we disagree with our enemies, our task is to identify with them. They too feel justified in their point of view.” ? Gautama Buddha “As rain falls equally on the just and the unjust, do not burden your heart with judgements but rain your kindness equally on all. ” ? Gautama Buddha “Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else.” ? Gautama Buddha “You will not be punished for your anger; you will be punished by your anger.” ? Gautama Buddha “The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. Only the moment you reject all help are you freed.” ? Gautama Buddha “Pain is certain, suffering is optional.” ? Gautama Buddha “Words do not express thoughts very well; every thing immediately becomes a little different, a little distorted, a little foolish. And yet it also pleases me and seems right that what is of value and wisdom of one man seems nonsense to another.” ? Gautama Buddha “It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.” ? Gautama Buddha “Resolve to be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant with the weak and wrong. Sometime in your life, you will have been all of these.” ? Gautama Buddha “An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind.” ? Gautama Buddha “What we think, we become.” ? Gautama Buddha “The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.” ? Gautama Buddha “All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts and made up of our thoughts. If a man speak or act with an evil thought, suffering follows him as the wheel follows the hoof of the beast that draws the wagon.... If a man speak or act with a good thought, happiness follows him like a shadow that never leaves him.” ? Gautama Buddha “Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.” ? Gautama Buddha “There is no path to happiness: happiness is the path.” ? Gautama Buddha “Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.” ? Gautama Buddha “There is nothing more dreadful than the habit of doubt. Doubt separates people. It is a poison that disintegrates friendships and breaks up pleasant relations. It is a thorn that irritates and hurts; it is a sword that kills.” ? Gautama Buddha
