I think you are right. What is a valid reason, gambling debts or money owed your drug dealer is just as valid as needing a downpayment for a house, it is your money after all.

The wealth disparity in China seems huge compared to the US. It sort of reminds me of the early 1900s in the US where we had sweat shops paying workers next to nothing in company towns that took what they made at inflated prices for limited goods... while the very top, owners and paid for politicians, made a fortune and build huge mansions, etc.... Funny that Communism was supposed to eliminate it but it just makes it more profitable to be in the government and/or connected.

Anyway, I see a lot of trouble with China. I have a new windsurfing board in transit now that was made in Asia and shipped to the board maker/designer in Hood River, Oregon. The owner told me he's probably going to start making them in the US again for much the same reasons we here everywhere, including soaring labor rates, poor quality control compared to being able to walk onto a shop floor and huge shipping costs since you need to fill a container or mingle orders with others to get reasonable rates.
