Exactly. What was an eyeopener to me was my last trip to Maui in March where I went to Hertz for a good rate on an SUV via priceline... the time spent getting my car was tiny compared to EVERY past trip... since they have video clerks to balance the load across all the airports they serve. They can put the clerks in low wage, low cost of living states and use them to handle peak demand all over the globe. The only thing I missed from the experience was flirting with a local if the clerk was female in past years...

Hi Robert, Times and attitudes are changing. In times past the best idea was to outsource as much manufacturing as possible That brought us to the point where manufactured products carried the label, "Designed in the USA, manufactured in China"

Honda in a Detroit News article that stated that Honda exported 20,000 more vehicles from the US than they imported from Japan.

The vehicle with the highest American made content is the Toyota Camry.

When I sold cars at a Ford and Toyota Dealer out west. Buyers on occasion would demand a Camry made in Japan. Even after it was documented and proved to them that American made Camry's were more likely to be defect free than those made in Japan. This is simple...give the customer what they want. ( The VIN numbers indicate country of origin).

The wisdom of outsourcing is balanced by the pain of outsourcing. When the Chinese make a mistake in manufacturing, they make 10,000 of them before discovery.

Henry Ford had it right when he paid his workers $5.00 a day (Competition paid 2.40 to 2.75 per day). Higher pay means more money in circulation and fewer people on government assistance.
