Mohan, the issue is complex but I feel the average working American will say why bail out Korean-look at all the jobs we have lost in autos, electronics, shipbuilding and so on-let them fail. Dick Gephardt, Pat Buchanan, Ross Perot will ahve a field day with this stuff. I thought the Clinton administration was supposed to be pro-union. I am not saying this is the answer I am merely examining the political realities and I really don't think the public will want to listen to ivory tower economists. In spite of the technological revolution we still have a net loss of good paying jobs in the USA. Politics have a major role in shaping economic policy. I suspect the world will turn to protectionism in the future. Mike
