This statement is contradicted by the sheer fact that Apple just sold the most iPhones they've ever sold.
I stand corrected. You are right. I should have said the *percentage* of Apple customers willing to pay a premium, not the absolute number.

On market share, you're also correct that much of their trouble has been in areas where they didn't have much exposure, but that's only a piece of the picture and doesn't mean they're not facing a major problem. When an OS becomes dominant, manufactures of products that use it and play with it start to focus there. Android's rise to dominance in global mobile OS has been spectacular and is showing no sign of letting up. Just over two years ago, it was close. Now Android has a massive lead. Apple seems to think that now that they are in China they will be able to make up lost ground, but this won't happen unless the Chinese show a preference for iOS over Android. So far, no signs of that being the case. Even Apple predicted very modest Chinese growth, at least in the near term. Had this been 2008, it would have been adopted in an explosive manner.

Its true Apple sold more iPhones than ever - but the added sales were into new markets - in all its established markets Apples market share declined - even in the USA. And compared with competing OS' - Apples growth rate compared with its competitors of growth has declined considerably...
