Actually, it was Xerox PARC that invented a lot of the ideas that Jobs developed in Lisa and the Mac--

And IBM gave Gates his entree into monopoly and excessive wealth--
inventors.about.com

Of course, both Jobs and Gates were clever enough and ruthless enough to take what they needed and build upon it.

But PARC doesn't get the recognition it deserves--it was the incubator for an enormous number of fruitful ideas and designs, and helped a large number of entrepreneurs get their start.
