I'm curious what you think China should do?
Converting power plants to NG is the quickest solution. Putting scrubbers on existing plants would also help.

The national government in China may decree a solution...but the local governments have to find the financing.

Keep in mind that it took about 30 years to clean up the air in out major cities. Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, and Buffalo had very bad air quality .

The solution is obvious, but who is going to pay for it? If manufacturing in China gets disrupted by air pollution problems, then our stock market will pay a price. This would cause a slow down in the world economy..

I have read about all kinds of untried solutions. eg. giant vacuums, forced rainmaking over the cities, special facial filters etc. .
But the source of the problem is coal fired power plants.

Have not heard anything from Obama about clean coal technology. That program died a quiet death. The people
of W. Virginia voted against Obama, because they thought he was the enemy of the coal producers. Heck the enemy was Natural Gas.. And no politician of any stripe is going to reverse the trend to NG.

The new trend in autos is compressed natural gas/ gasoline engines. Another nail in the OPEC coffin.
