That is really well said!

I am all for reducing pollution, thus lowering the rate of fossil fuel consumption through higher MPG targets, using solar and wind where it doesn't kill birds, etc...

but it seems that in CA we get 1% of our power from coal so we would have done far more for the environment to use all the subsidy money for electric and hybrid cars to buy out to coal plants and convert them to NG.

But... it seems to me the rich found a way to get the government to allow them to get to work quicker by having a cool car, the Tesla, which is allowed to travel in the commuter car lanes. We have so many who buy cars to get the shorter commute that the toll lanes and free commute lanes are clogging up with solo drivers.

It seems idiotic as two people driving their own Prius autos probably harm the environment much more than the two sharing a ride in a 40 MPG Volkswagen or other car with great MPG. They also don't pay their fair share of the gas tax to pay for the roads they get to use...

The skeptic in me feels the wealthy in CA (or anyone who can afford to buy a $90K car for the commute sticker) found a way to look cool and "green" to their kids, have a top rated car AND get to drive in the commute and toll lanes for free in the Bay Area.

I think the Tesla is great but I'd like to see it succeed or fail on its own without taxpayer and regular driver subsidies.
