Hi Kirk,
losing too much money to war compared to what they would loose without slavery
Good perspective, but now we have just the reverse. Peace in the ME will cause a lot of people, companies and countries to lose an income stream from the US'

1)If peace were to come to the ME, Israel would get less foreign aid.

2) Companies that thrive when we are on a constant war footing will lose income. When the Iron Curtain fell, the ME came to the rescue of those companies.

3) People that work for defense contractors could wind up at Walmart. (The rent still come due in War and Peace)

I recall when President Eisenhower lamented excessive defense spending and blamed the "military Industrial complex"

Charles E. Wilson was Secretary of Defense. He was an ex GM President, and said , "What's good for GM is good for the country".

It seems like everyone publicly prays for peace and quietly hopes for war.
