OT OT OT

For those of you getting a little sick of this sector, CNBC reports that Maytag is hitting an all-time high today. I don't know the ticker symbol offhand.

NEWS FLASH: AT&T to acquire Teleport Communications, possibly below current share price.

The modem handles four static IP addresseses at 10 mbs. That is 40 mbs throughput. I use 10 base T ethernet which connects to the modem.

Wow. But perhaps you should get a 100 Base T NIC to connect to the modem? - same ballpark price. What UART do you have in your PC?
16750 may be needed instead of 16550.

<I have a four bridge cable modem at my residence office. Installation took 15 minutes. The modem handles four static IP addresseses at 10 mbs. That is 40 mbs throughput. I use 10 base T ethernet which connects to the modem. The hook up required plugging an RJ 45 jack into the modem, plugging the modem into a wall power socket and screwing on a 75 ohm coax cable from the cable feed to my house. That is as easy as it gets>

Paul,

Are you sure that you actually get a full 40mbs throughput? Also it sees to me that you will be sharing the local cable loop with your neighborhood since your cable company doesn't typically provide a dedicated coax to each building. Once others users jump on your throughput will be impaired.

Cheers,

Steve

From PC Week:
1) MSFT adds DSL drivers to Win 98 - brings users software support, modemlike installation
2) INTC is pushing USB as DSL modem connector - eliminates ethernet connection between PC and modem
3) DSL vendors roll out "splitterless" technology - eliminates expsenseive line upgrades for telcos
4) DSL vendors introduce client equipment as low as $199.

Currently, the lowest price for unlimited access from DSL providers is $59/month.
