Hi Shane: Broadcom is a chip company, not an end-product company. It has some of the best chip designers in the business, so there is no way on earth that LSI is designing the chips for them. On the other hand, it is fabless, and I do not know where they get their chips fabricated. However, I do not think that LSI has any foundry services. You may want to pay a visit to Broadcom's web site at broadcom.com You will find detailed descriptions of their cable modem chip sets. Incidentally, I think the biggest prooblem that LSI is facing is that it is too big and too diversified in terms of product line. It is unbelievably difficult to achieve a large growth rate for a large semi company. The few companies which have managed to do so: INTC and TXN have both the feature that a disproportionate share of their business lies in one area: microprocessors for INTC, and DSPs for TXN. Thus, althugh LSI is very cheap at its current level, there may be better values among the battered semis. For example, ADI or TXN may be better long-term investment vehicles.
