I continue to believe the most negative fundamental changes in our political system are related to campaign finance issues. The United Citizens Supreme Court decision only accelerated processes in place since at least the late 70s. Bill Greider's book, title escapes me, was the best documentation of that.

As politics veers more and more toward the most wealthy with little hope of reversing it. And as the political culture follows along--the entitlements discussion is the best example that leaps to mind (the "serious" folk, to steal from Krugman, consider any discussion of tax raises to be folly so it's only about cutting benefits)--we are all cut out of the play.

Sad. Very sad. The only recourse, I'm afraid, is voting for the candidates and parties least likely to do harm.
